Big Buy

I closed on a condo today! It's definitely the biggest purchase of my life and a lot more complicated than buying a car! It's being painted tomorrow, and then my stuff is being moved next week. Yeah! I'll share pictures soon.

Bride

Congratulations to Amy and Jeff! They were married at the Citadel on May 30 with a reception at the Air Force Base. We all had a fun-filled weekend in Charleston. I got to visit with some friends and cousins who live in Charleston before the wedding. Now Amy and Jeff are living in Washington state, and we all miss them very much!

Bachelorette Party

My friend, Amy, got married this summer. Her bachelorette party was lovely, and she got lots of sexy lingerie for her and her future husband, Jeff. That's Amy on the right looking beautiful... before the party left home. Luckily, I had another party to go to so I didn't have the pleasure of seeing Amy's last wild night out as a single gal. I'll leave those details to the imagination (don't worry, nothing illegal!).

Oh, Baby!!

My sister, McCall, and her husband, Chris, had a georgeous baby girl on June 15!! Her name is Meredith Ellis (my middle name), and she is absolutely wonderful! McCall is 5'8" and Chris is seven feet tall, so this is one long baby!! I flew to NYC the day she was born (after flying out the day before!), and it was very hard to leave. Luckily, the nice man sitting next to me on the flight home was very nice and didn't make fun of me for crying. I got to see her again at the beach in July, and then she came to Atlanta for a week after that. She'll be here again in about a week and a half so McCall and Chris can go on a cruise. I'm very much looking forward to getting to hold her without so much competition!

All Things B, Not Just Beer

I'm really going to try to keep up my blog this time. I'm going to describe my life through all things that begin with the letter b, not just beer. Although beer factors in to most of these things.

Yes, I'm a Slacker

Wow, I've let even more time pass than before! Again, I have no excuse besides being busy. Beer Club has turned into a huge success. We've done Scottish beers, Fall microbrews, Winter microbrews, and a few others. I am drawing a blank right now. And, no, I haven't been drinking beer tonight; my mind is just on vacation during this three day weekend. I have really enjoyed trying so many new beers that I otherwise might not have tried. In future beer news, I've decided to spend my summer traveling Europe where I will get to try all sorts of new beers. I am open to suggestions if anybody has any must try beers... or wines, or countries, or towns, or any other travel advice for a woman traveling alone. I hatched this idea four days ago and realized that there are so many places to go and I'm not sure how to narrow it down. Therefore, I'm seeking advice anywhere I can find it. I am open to suggestions! Cheers!

What is going on?!? Apparently it's been so long since I blogged that I no longer "remember" how to insert a title. Or maybe my account is just mad at me and not letting me. Anyway, life has been exceptionally busy (and not just with drinking beer) so I haven't had time to write. And I was a little traumatized by the Thrashers being swept in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs so I was out of whack for a little while. But not that long. Really, I have no excuse besides being busy.

I ran the Peachtree Road Race last week and met my goal of running the whole thing (which I did in one hour and nine minutes- not great but I have new goals). Next year I want to run in less than one hour and in 2009 I want to run it in less than 55 minutes (that's what you use to have to do in order to get the t-shirt). To help myself meet these goals I'm going to run a half marathon in November. Really, the training schedule isn't that hard. It's two 3,4, or 5 mile runs during the week and one long run on the weekend. I did the six mile run easily on Sunday but it's when I get up to the 9 to 13 mile range that I'll start to wonder if I really went crazy went I set this goal. But on the bright side, long Sunday runs mean a good excuse to drink beer on Sunday evenings.

In other beer news, I started a Beer Club. For some unknown reason, some men wanted to join Women Who Wine. I put my foot down by stating the obvious- it's Women Who Wine, not People Who Wine. The Beer Bitches (or Bitchin' Beer Babes, as my dad came up with very quickly) was already in the works so I just switched it to Beer Club. Each month we'll meet (Friday was our first gathering) and have a different beer theme. This month it was Georgia microbrews. I'm not sure what next month will be. I'm open to suggestions. Cornhole has become our official game for some reason. Never heard of it? Grab some beer and give it a go sometime. Don't know what the heck I'm talking about? Go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornhole_(game). Yes, it's just a glorified bean bag toss.

Well, since I'm supposed to be doing volunteer work at ten in the morning, I'd better get to sleep. Cheers.

I've Waited Seven Years for This

Finally, the Thrashers are in the Stanley Cup playoffs!! I'm so excited and and so proud of this team. I'm cheering them on from home tonight in my Thrashers jersey and hat and drinking my beer using my Thrashers jersey coozie. I wish I could go to every playoff game but that is simply not in the budget of a teacher:-( Wow, this is a great game! I love it!!! I believe in Blueland and I believe that the Stanley Cup will one day soon be in Atlanta, whether this season or not!

I'm so ready for spring break!

I am so exhausted from everything I am juggling right now. I don't think I've ever been so ready for spring break. A week at the beach with friends is exactly what I need right now. Let me rephrase that... A week at the beach with friends and nothing to do but drink beer and eat food is exactly what I need right now. Five days and counting down...

We Haven't F*cked in a Year..

A f*ckin' calendar year. Yes, I have a point. My dad and I went to Eddie's Attic and this was the refrain in one of the songs (Tommy Womack, very funny song writer and author). However, this is not what you want to hear sung over and over and over while at a concert with your dad. But then it got even "better." During another song the refrain was, "a little bit of sex." Well, this was not bad until one of Tommy's guitar strings broke and the other singer kept singing "a little bit of sex" over and over and over while Tommy's guitar string got fixed. And my goodness, how freakin' long can it take to change one guitar string?!?! Apparently it's not as easy as it looks or as quick as you might think. Next time I go to a concert with my dad I think I need to edit the song list first for inappropriate father-daughter songs.

Women Who Wine

I don't often drink wine, but I really enjoyed joining in on Women Who Wine this evening. I think I'm going to try some different wines and develop my taste a little more before heading to California wine country this summer.

Happy Ending

I am very pleased with this seasonal beer from Sweetwater. It’s an imperial stout that promises an “explosive finish” and to “put a smile on your face!” I think the label designer must have been in post-coital bliss when she/he came up with these descriptions. Be warned though: this is not a beer to be enjoyed immediately after a workout. I made that mistake tonight and it is one I will not be repeating; it’s a little too heavy for post-workout. It may be okay post-coital, but not post-workout.
