Women Who Wine

I don't often drink wine, but I really enjoyed joining in on Women Who Wine this evening. I think I'm going to try some different wines and develop my taste a little more before heading to California wine country this summer.

Happy Ending

I am very pleased with this seasonal beer from Sweetwater. It’s an imperial stout that promises an “explosive finish” and to “put a smile on your face!” I think the label designer must have been in post-coital bliss when she/he came up with these descriptions. Be warned though: this is not a beer to be enjoyed immediately after a workout. I made that mistake tonight and it is one I will not be repeating; it’s a little too heavy for post-workout. It may be okay post-coital, but not post-workout.

Kids Say the Darndest Things

Today I was subbing for a 2nd grade after school program. The teacher I was subbing for is about 25. One of the students inquired of me, "Excuse me, are you Ms. F's mother?" Little $@#&er, I mean tyke.

Why Hospitals Should Have Bars...

Now wait, before you deem me a total alcoholic, hear me out. Hospital bars would not be for the patients, they would be for the families of patients. Seriously. I am extremely anxious about a loved one’s surgery on Friday. I could wait an hour or two for the surgery to be done. Shoot, I could wait four or five hours for the surgery to be done. But seven or eight hours is ridiculous! My nerves will be frayed and I’ll be begging the doctors and nurses for valium or anything else to calm my nerves. They will, of course, deny my requests no matter how neurotic and stressed I seem. This whole scenario could be avoided if hospitals had bars. If that were the case, I could go and have a beer or two to relax me and pass the time. Think about the benefits- I wouldn’t waste the hospital staff members’ time begging to be sedated, the hospital could jack up the bar prices to finance new state-of-the-art equipment (or at least some new x-ray machines), and, guys, when your wife is giving birth you can sneak out for a few shots and then pretend that you think the baby coming out really is a beautiful thing. Yeah, yeah- I know the outcome is beautiful and all, but the stuff before it really isn’t pleasant for anybody. While my plan will not be implemented prior to Friday morning, I will spread the word and maybe a grassroots hospital bar movement will pop up. Most brilliant ideas do start with the dream of one individual. Maybe this will be my legacy. Or maybe it will be my ticket to Betty Ford. Okay, I admit it, this is all a plan to get into rehab and meet Britney Spears. I’m just hoping to be there on one of her 20-23 hour stints before she goes and gets more tattoos or shaves more body hair off.

Happy Anniversary

Yesterday was the 10 year anniversary of my favorite brewery. Sweetwater celebrated 10 years of making great beer by opening it's brewery for four hours on a Sunday. I always enjoy a trip to Sweetwater and yesterday was no exception. The highlight of my day- getting a special 10 year anniversary pint glass to add to my collection. As I've said before, it's sometimes the little things that make me happy.
